Last month OpenERP concluded a 15 day long brainstorming session with gold partner Camptocamp. The purpose was to undergo a deep analysis of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) in order to conclude what should be improved, changed or simply removed.

The final objective is to help companies in better meeting their business needs with this application.
Some of the changes planned are:

  • Routing of Products: use of removal/putaway strategies in addition to push/pull rules and definition of Routes
  • New packing interface
  • New concept of quants to speed up the stock computation and the process
  • Implementation of real time costing methods such as FIFO, FEFO, LIFO…

To get yourself acquainted with has been discussed about the future of WMS, read the document containing this info. This documentation is a support for the future changes that will be done for the WMS for OpenERP version 8.
